During the workshop TO BE TOLD in Florence, my installation THE STATE OF WHERE? / LO STATO DI DOVE? gained the creative contributions from the participants representing Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Rep., Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Turkey and the UK. Later this process of “collecting memories” got extended by the other contributions of the artists and curators outside the workshop. They are: Jay Bakker (NL), Bram Borloo (BE), Neringa Bumblienė (LT), Krisztina Erdei (HU), Jūratė Jarulytė (LT), Rita Marhaug (NO), Marjan Verhaeghe (BE), Tomas Vosylius (LT). This post contains their memories, thoughts transformed into the visual language. It reflects the contextual (depending on our memory of the particular time, age, geo-political situation and socio-cultural surrounding) determination of the concept of (inner and outer) freedom in relation to a given three-fold topic considering different stages (child/teen/adult) of the symbolic maturity of an individual:

1. The Future is Now? / (It. Il Futuro è Adesso?)

2. Freedom…The State of Where? / (It. Libertà… Lo Stato Di Dove?)

3. Welcome to Everywhere and Nowhere. / (It. Benvenuti … Ovunque e Nel Nulla.)

Laura. Una ragazza di quartiere.

Corridoi lunghi e bianchi

volti pallidi e tristi

uomini che camminano indecisi

e non sanno a quale speranza aggrapparsi.

Io sto qui nella mia camera

con il vuoto dentro l’anima.

No, non è la malattia

ma  un male che si chiama nostalgia

vorrei poterti rivedere

e forse la malattia potrei sconfiggere.

My interest was not just to tell a story but also to question isn’t it an integrated part of the collective memory, how close or familiar is it to the other individuals from the European countries with a partly common, partly diverse and national consciousness, to provoke the discussions and…
